CSX Transportation

DATE: Tuesday, July 13, 2010

TIME: 7:00 p.m.to 9:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Washington Grove Town Office (McCathran Hall)
300 Center Street
Washington Grove, Maryland

CSX Transportation (CSXT) will host a public meeting to discuss developments in the National Gateway clearance improvement project at East Deer Park Drive in Washington Grove.

This project involves increasing the vertical clearance over the CSXT tracks at East Deer Park Drive to obtain necessary vertical clearance required to allow double-stacked, intermodal, freight trains to pass beneath the structure. These double-stacked freight trains will allow for more efficient movement of freight between Midwest producers and consumers with mid-Atlantic ports and world markets. The work is being coordinated with the Maryland State Highway Administration.

The purpose of this meeting is to update the community on progress to date and to discuss the potential alternatives with local residents, businesses and public officials. Public comments will be collected regarding the proposed improvement and its social, economic, and environmental impacts.

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (codified as 36 CFR 800), information regarding the presence of any known cultural resources in the vicinity of the project is also requested. Cultural resources include prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, historic bridges, historic buildings, sites and districts. Information about cultural resources in the area can be submitted at the meeting or by the comment submission deadline.

Representatives from CSXT, Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) and consulting engineers will be present to discuss the proposed project and environmental considerations as well as address any questions and concerns regarding this proposed project.
